“Yoga does not just change the way we see things; it transforms the person who sees.”
— B.K.S. Iyengar
Hi,
My Name Is Heather
and I'm obsessed with yoga, mindful movement and always learning something new. I geek out over anything that makes me a little bit happier, healthier, or more resilient than I was yesterday.
I love to share the practice, teaching both in-person and online. I truly believe that yoga is for everybody - all sizes, shapes, ethnicities, and physical abilities.
I'm a yoga teacher, event professional, a voracious reader, and an advocate for staying curious always.
I Love Yoga. Which brings me to you.
The journey into yoga and my personal practice has improved my life in every way. It keeps me centered both physically and mentally, no matter what gets thrown my way. It's impossible not to want to share that with others.
Want to practice with me? Check out my current schedule or sign up for an individual one-on-one practice.
My Journey to Yoga
I found yoga in 2012 while running an event series called Vinyasa in the Vineyard. Who doesn't enjoy fitness in the sun, followed by a wine tasting?! Soon after the series ended though, my world came crashing down around my ears when I was made redundant by my full time non-profit job. Feeling rudderless and unsure of where life would take me, I reached out to Abby Dobbs, with whom I ran the event. She welcomed me to her studio in Washington, DC and a whole new world opened before my eyes.
I was quickly enamored by all that yoga offers including the joy of learning how to move and breathe in all the new shapes my body was making (and the fact that I was learning how to make all these crazy shapes!). I was entranced by the sense of internal peace and calm as I worked to let go of my ego and attachment to the shapes my body was making. And most of all, I fell in love with the community, the support and sense of play as we shared the joy of this beautiful practice together.
Traveling deeper into practice, seeking knowledge, and teaching yoga
I’ve explored various styles from Forrest Yoga to Vinyasa to Yin Yoga before finding my way to Rocket Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga. In 2017, I started my first 200-hour training in Power Flow and Vinyasa Yoga in Washington, DC. Before even completing the course, I knew that I wanted to share my joy of the practice with others. Not even 3 months after graduation, I began my 100-hour Rocket Yoga Training with Jonathan Ewing. Through that training, I dove deeper into movement, anatomy and the power of hands-on-assists. Now I am in the midst of a 500-hour intensive Functional Ashtanga Yoga Training with my mentor, and level 2 authorized ashtanga teacher, Michael Joel Hall.
My goal is to maintain a life-long practice and share my love of it with others.
I practice yoga daily, getting on the mat and centering myself. Somedays the practice looks like a fiery Ashtanga or Rocket practice and on other days is looks like a more peaceful Yin or seated meditation practice. Regardless of the shapes you make with your body,
I truly believe that yoga is the centering of the internal self, the union of body, mind and spirit.
